bionaire pictureWelcome to Perfect Health At Home’s Bionaire Ultrasonic Humidifier review. Bionaire offers two ultrasonic humidifiers and I’ll focus on the BUL9500B-U model. The other model, BUL8000-UM, is the cheaper (only by 20 bucks) of the two but is lower quality.

Before you see product specifications let’s look at some important information about humidifiers in general.

What Can A Humidifier Help With?

In the winter months the air tends to be dry and low in humidity. When this happens you experience sinus problems, chapped lips and extreme dryness. Have you ever woke up and couldn’t even swallow because you throat was so dry? Low humidity in your household is to blame. I suffer from this and have found great relief with humidifiers.

This air can effect more than just your health too. Dry air cracks and warps floors. It also dries out furniture and kills house plants. It’s just generally unpleasant to be in a room that feels like that.

Low humidity and dryness just means air that isn’t holding much moisture. The ideal humidity level is 45 percent but most households usually can’t maintain this without help.

What a humidifier does is simple:

It puts clean moisture into the air and raises humidity levels to a comfortable level. The Bionaire humidifier does so in an efficient and low maintenance way relieving many problems.

How Does An Ultrasonic Humidifier Work?

There are a few different humidifiers which include:

  • Steam
  • Impeller
  • Ultrasonic
  • Wick/evaporative

Each has their own advantages and disadvantages. For example a steam humidifier is the simplest and least expensive of all humidifiers. All it does is boil water and put moisture in the air. The downside is it has the least amount of technology and gives you the least amount of control. Also, it can be dangerous to have around children because it gets hot and can burn.

An impeller is a rotating disk that flings water at a comb like-diffuser. The diffuser turns water into small droplets that float into the air and emits a cool fog. You need to change the water in these machines often. If not, the fog put in the air will contain bacteria which isn’t good for health. Also, the water needs to be low in mineral content or this humidifier will produce dust.

A wick/evaporative uses a cloth or sheet to draw water out of a reservoir and a fan blows the moisture into the air. This type of humidifier is self regulating. As humidity rises it becomes harder for water to be drawn out of the reservoir and less is emitted. You don’t have much control though.

An ultrasonic, like the BUL9500B-U, uses a metal diaphragm that vibrates at an ultrasonic frequency to create water droplets. It works in complete silence and gives off a cool fog. The disadvantages are similar to an impeller humidifier. You’ll see in the next section how Bionaire has solved these disadvantages for you.

Bioniare Humidifier Specifications

The Bionaire Ultrasonic Humidifier corrects unpleasant indoor conditions and keeps your sinuses, throat, lungs and skin working and feeling good. It has some innovative technology to make this one of the least stressful humidifiers to own, clean and operate.

First of it is really light weight and very portable. It only weighs 6 pounds and can easily be moved from room to room by anyone. It also has a 2 gallon tank making it perfect for medium and large size rooms. This makes it great for your living room and bedrooms.

Everything is digital and makes using so easy. Setting your desired comfort level is as simple as pushing a button. It can run for 4 hours, 8 hours or 12; you won’t have to worry about it shutting off in the middle of the night. This mean you will wake up being able to swallow and breath.

It also comes with cool mist and warm mist technologies. This is something you don’t usually find with humidifiers. This option gives your more control over comfort levels and to create an atmosphere to your exact liking.

It’s extremely easy to change water and comes with a convenient handle to do so. Some people complain humidifiers leak which makes it unwise to put on carpet. This is not the case with Bionaire and it will not leak because of its smart design.

It also comes with antimicrobial protection and demineralization cartridges. I mentioned earlier ultrasonic humidifiers face bacteria and mineral problems. Bioniare neutralizes these threats ensuring your air is clean and fresh. This helps protect your health and the health of your family.

It even comes with a nightlight.

It’s Cost Effective Too

This humidifier doesn’t require filters. Constantly having to change filters can be a hidden cost most people don’t account for. You’ll save from not having to worry about that.

Also, did you know air that is dry and low in humidity feels colder than it actually is? It’s cheaper to raise air humidity than to heat it too. You may think those savings are small but you won’t have to spend as much money heating your house; it adds up.

Lastly, you wont have to depend on chapsticks, lotions and medications to keep your skin, sinuses and throat in good working condition. Again, these costs add up and you can easily spends hundred in the winter months on them. By eliminating the need for them you will have more money for yourself.

For $99 this is an excellent price. Cheap humidifiers tend to break easy and can leak everywhere. They can also be a hassle to deal with. The BUL9500B-U helps alleviate all that without breaking the bank.

Cleaning Is A Breeze

The tank just pops right off and you can carry it to your sink with the handle. You won’t have to worry about it spilling water all over the place. Undiluted vinegar is great for cleaning too.

It’s recommended to change the water every week. Even though there is built in bacteria protection you still don’t want to risk putting bad stuff into your air.

Also, you may want to use distilled water. Again, there is built in deminerlization technology but distilled water will decrease the chances of any minerals being deposited into the air. Plus you have to clean it less if you do use it.

Do I Think You Should Buy It?

Definitely!

The cost may scare you a little but you get what you pay for. I’ve heard horror stories of people having to buy 3 or 4 humidifiers a winter because they bought cheap ones every time. Instead of a one time buy of $99 they bought 4 that costs $50 each. That ends up being $200.

I really like this! Our old humidifier requires filter replacements and is too heavy to move around. Also, cleaning it is a pain. It is in my husband’s den. We paid quite a bit more for the one we have and it is only a few years old. The price is actually quite reasonable for this one. It would be nice to have a second to use in the family room and master bedroom. Thanks!

I am happy I stumbled upon your site.
I am currently living in London for the first time and I have never experienced living in such a cold country. It’s springtime now but I find it very cold since I’m from a tropical country.

I am shocked that my skin is very dry and my body has this unbelievable amount of static electricity. I really don’t enjoy the feeling of being shocked by it. I am on my fifth day here and I am already considering of going home as soon as possible. But what you have posted has gave me hope.

    Thank you. Cheers!

The static is from the dryness and low humidity. In tropic places, like where you’re from, the air is high in humidty. You should invest in a humidifier it’ll help you out so much

Thanks for the humidifier info…I’ve been looking for a new one.
I mainly use one in the winter but it’s just the cheap plastic reservoir with the ‘steamer’ unit on top. I keep it in the bedroom to keep me from drying up at night.
If the Bionaire will work in a large room I would get a lot more out of it than what I’m getting from my cheap humidifier.
$99 isn’t bad — I think I’ve been paying about $20 for the crappy ones I’ve been buying and they just don’t quite do the trick….plus, I’ve gone through 3 of them in 5 years.
I think I’ll try the Bionaire out..
    Thanks again!

Thanks for commenting David. It’s common for cheap humidifiers to break easily. You won’t find that to be the case with this humidifier. You won’t be disappointed with Bionaire.

Seems to be a great review on humidifiers and I actually learned the difference between the various types there are available. We do not have a humidity issue in our home, as a matter of fact we have the opposite and run a de-humidifier quite often.
I am wondering though, if the Bionaire Ultrasonic would benefit us during harvest season when we get a lot more dust in the house from combines throwing chaff all through the air. Do you have any thoughts on this?
I do know that this may be the answer to my daughters prayers in her home because it is quite dry and the price is very reasonable for what you get. I’ll point her in this direction and let her know about the free shipping from Amazon too.
