How to Use and Prepare Vervain

I mentioned earlier you should have this herb in your house at all times because of how many medicinal properties it has and diseases and problems it can help with.

Infusion: For an infusion you’ll need about a half an ounce to an ounce for every pint of water. If you are only making a glass, you’ll only need a teaspoon worth.

Boil the water then pour it onto the plant in another container. Cover and let set for about 10 to 20 minutes. After the water has cooled significantly, strain and add some honey for flavor if you wish. It should be drunk lukewarm.

If you are taking it to fight colds, influenza, coughs or to produce sweating drink it hot. Never allow the infusion to boil.

Take between 1 to 3 glasses in small amounts daily.

vervain teaTea: The process of making a tea is a lot like making an infusion. You’ll need about 1 teaspoon of the dried herb and about 3 teaspoons if freshly crushed. This is the amount for 1 glass of water.

Boil the water and pour it onto the herb in another container and let steep for 5 to 10 minutes. If you wish to make it stronger and don’t simmer longer; it can make the tea bitter if you do so.

Add milk or cream to improve the taste.

If it’s warm out, you’ll need to make a fresh batch everyday. If you refrigerate the tea it can be good for up to a week.

Powdered:

You can buy powder from the place I mentioned earlier. All you have to do is add 1/2 teaspoon to 1/4 water. After, drink a  full glass of water. You can drink it cold or hot; hot takes effect faster.

Capsules:

If you have capsules, take about 2 to 3 a day.

Are There Any Dangers Involved?

There are some herbs that can have side effects if taken in too large of doses or for too long. Vervain, however, doesn’t really have any side effects as long as you take the amount I recommend and give yourself breaks after prolonged uses.

If you are giving to a small child or someone weak, give 1/3 or 2/3 of the herb dosage mentioned up top. If you have a weak stomach, there’s a chance you become nauseous. If this is the case, don’t blame the herb, the weak stomach is to blame. Just take teaspoons every 15 minutes until you can take the recommended amount.

You can add the powered to mashed potatoes, mashed vegetables, or sweet fruits like dates and figs for children.

DON’T MIX ANY HERBS WITH DRUGS, THE TWO DON’T WORK WELL TOGETHER. DO NOTE PREPARE HERBS OR FOOD IN ALUMINUM COOKING UTENSILS.

Herbs Are The Way To Go

Every chemical medicine comes with a price and every time you take a pill, you move farther and farther from ideal, optimal health.

You might get temporary relief but the problem will come back and come back with more problems because of all the side effects.

The only downside to herbs is they take a little longer to work. In some cases they give instantaneous results but in some cases you may have to take them for weeks at a time. Don’t worry if this is the case, herbs are natures medicine and will do your body more good than any chemical medicine.

There’s a herb for every disease and you will find tremendous relief in taking them.

Before I Go

There are certain herbs that you should have at your disposable at all times, the way some people have aspirin on hand at all times.

I agree with you, herbs are the way to go. Every modern medicine is derived from plants and herbs.

But it is important to learn about the herbs and make sure you’re taking them correctly, the right dose for the right situation, etc.

I wasn’t aware of blue vervain and all the medical uses this little guy has, but I really enjoyed the post and just wanted to say thanks for the education.

    Thanks,
    Todd

Hey there. The only herb I’ve ever tried is St. John’s Wort. Ever since then, I’ve been looking for alternatives to expensive medications and doctors visits, and at the same time doing all necessary research to avoid all the scams. As far as blue vervain, the biggest selling point was the relief from tension headaches part. lol I could definitely use some of that.

    Hi Dylan,

Thanks for the great information. I also trust in the wonderful healing powers of herbs and I avoid pharmaceutical drugs like the plague! I’ve used StarWest Botanicals also and I have found them to be excellent quality.

I knew that blue vervain or verbena had healing properties, but I hadn’t realized that it was one of the most important healing herbs.

With its ability to sooth and calm, improve digestion, promote perspiration and to clear the colon and bladder, it sounds like a powerful all round addition for detoxification and general healing from chronic illness.

When you say to take breaks after prolonged use, do you know how long approximately (weeks or months) and then how long to take a break for? I guess it’s different for everybody.

    Thanks!

There are plenty of herbs that can help with all the problems you listed there so just try and mix it up. I would give yourself a few weeks after prlonged use, it’s good for your body and you won’t buidl a resistance to vervain. Thanks for commenting!

This is good to know. Herbs can go a long way in treating most of our illness. One thing I like about herbs is that they don’t have serious side effects like medication pills. Most of the herbs are not being certified by the United States Food and Drug Administration despite its benefits to our health. Nevertheless, I think herb is safer than chemical drugs.
