If you are looking to purchase burdock root tea I would like to suggest two places. The first place, Buddha Teas, is a great place to buy burdock in tea bag form. This is a very easy way to get the many benefits of burdock.

If you want the root itself to make your own tea, you should consider Starwest Botanicals. The herbs sold here are of the highest quality and the company is well respected. Both these places are personal favorites of mine and satisfaction is guaranteed.

Before we get into each option and safety concerns, you should know exactly what you are getting from burdock.

**I like history and the scientific side of herbs. If this doesn’t interest you just skip to the next section and you’ll learn how to prepare the tea. If you like history read on.

This root has been used for centuries and by many different cultures. It has a long history in China to fight colds, flu, throat infections and pneumonia. It was used for the same purposes in India.

In medieval Germany it was used to treat cancerous tumors. In 14th century Europe it was prescribed for leprosy.

In the 19th century it helped many people with painful urination, kidney infections and urinary tract infections. Europeans of this time period prescribed burdock for:

  • Fever
  • Cancer
  • Eczema
  • Psoriasis
  • Acne
  • Dandruff
  • Gout
  • Ring worm
  • Skin infections
  • Gonorrhea
  • Syphilis

As you can see it was greatly revered by past cultures. In the 1950’s it was a main ingredient in many natural cancer treatments. Studies today have shown there is a chemical in burdock, arctigenin, that has anti-tumor activity.

Today it is known as one of the best blood purifiers and this why it is so helpful in so many problems. Research is on going and some studies are less promising than others. However some studies show great promise.

In one test, animals who were given burdock were completely protected against poisons known to be toxic. Scientists haven’t been able to explain why this happens.

German researchers have found it useful in fungi and bacterial infections. In my opinion use it as a blood cleanser; this makes it good for acne and other skin problems. As a diuretic it’s helpful in urinary problems. Make sure to get the “ok” from your doctor before you do anything.

As you can see it has really great benefits.

Buddha Teas

This is a great place to buy burdock tea bags or any herbal tea. The founder, John Boyd, was born in the UK and moved to America. He was shocked to see all the additives, pesticides and different chemicals used in teas here.

He decided to make 100 percent, all natural products that were chemical free; this makes it safe for your body and the environment.

Tea bags are a very convenient way to get the benefits of herbs. This is true for burdock. All you have to do is place the bag into boiling water, cover and let steep for 3 to 6 minutes. It’s really that easy.

All you need to do is boil 1 teaspoon of burdock root in 3 cups of water for 30 minutes. You can drink up to three glasses a day. This tea has a sweet taste similar to celery root.

They have other versions of burdock including powders, extracts and capsules.

Are There Any Safety Concerns?

The magic of herbs when compared to prescription medicines is herbs have limited side effects while prescription medicines have tons.

This is the case with burdock; there really aren’t any side effects. It is a uterine stimulant so pregnant women should avoid.

Also, if you are giving to children, debilitated people or the elderly you should give 1/3rd to 2/3rd of the recommended dosage. You can increase strength if necessary.

My first question is about the burdock plant. I live in the west, and we have a weed that we call burdock. It matures in the fall of the year, and leaves a very prickly round “burr” behind when you touch it. Horses get it all throughout their manes and tails. Is this some kind of plant relative of the burdock you are talking about. I enjoyed your website, because I am always interested in better health, and ways to achieve it. It does sound like it requires some getting used to the routine though. And it would also require much patience. Having involved myself in some extensive weight loss/health programs in the past, that worked really good, I don’t doubt that if practiced religiously, there would be health benefits from your system as you call it. Why do you call it My system and not have a more precise name for it? Thanks for a very good, well put together site. Jim

The burdock you are describing is the burdock in this article! Unless you know how to properly prepare herbs I would still buy them from a supplier. And My System is not something I created. It was created by a famous Danish health expert a while ago. I’m not really sure why he chose My System as the name.

    Hello,
I’ve never heard of this kind of a tea before. I was searching the web for something natural to fix my fever as I am really getting tired of taking pills all the time. I just think it’s not good for your body to eat them, so something natural would be way better. Would this tea truly help out with a fever? Also, how’s the taste of it, any good?
